Kellerei Kaltern-Caldaro is the historic wine cooperative based in Caldaro, in one of the most suitable areas of South Tyrol . Here, wine is the protagonist in the life of the entire community: over the years, in fact, an increasing number of winemakers have joined Kellerei Kaltern, sharing its intentions and engaging in the constant search for quality. This winery was born from the merger, in 1992, of two other historic companies in the area: the Bauernkellerei (Farmer's Cellar) and the Jubiläumskellerei (Cantina del Giubileo). This has led the Trentino company to have about 300 hectares of vineyards on which to operate, guaranteeing a considerable variety of products based on local and international vines. Today, Cantina Kaltern has 650 winegrowing members and is one of the most important in all of South Tyrol. At the base of its success is the attention to quality, traditions and the environment: Kellerei Kaltern has in fact received the FAIR'N GREEN sustainability certification, a brand that testifies to its sustainable management of resources and its social commitment. .
White wine Kellerei Kaltern Caldaro
The white wine Kellerei Kaltern Caldaro is born in the oldest area of the DOC Alto Adige, near Lake Caldaro. An area dedicated to the production of great wines obtained from native and international varieties: from Pinot Bianco to Gewürztraminer , up to Moscato Giallo and Sauvignon . All the vineyards belonging to the cooperative are cultivated with passion and competence, as well as attention to the environment: the primary objective of the winery's members is in fact to always keep the quality standard of their wines high and to protect the centenary soils that surround the the needle. For this reason, the use of herbicides is avoided and the harvest takes place entirely by hand. Kellerei Kaltern also stands out for being the first winery in South Tyrol to have followed the principles of biodynamics in the cultivation of 15 hectares of its vineyards, from which it obtains complex white wines such as Solos Bianco Bio DOC. How was the Kellerei Winery born?
The history of the Kellerei Kaltern winery dates back more than a century and is closely linked to those of other historic wineries in the Caldaro area: the Bauernkellerei Kaltern and the Jubiläumskellerei Kaltern, founded a few years after Kellerei Kaltern. Over the course of a century marked by war and economic recovery, these realities will continue to grow and evolve, in the continuous search for quality: Kellerei Kaltern will be transformed into "Erste Kellerei" (Prima Cantina) and will merge with the "Neue Kellerei ”(Nuova Cantina) in 1986. At the end of the twentieth century, the Bauernkellerei and the Jubiläumskellerei will merge into Kellerei Kaltern and in 2016 Cantina Kaltern as we know it today will be born. Currently, the Cantina Kaltern cooperative has as many as 650 winegrowing members, thus combining small family realities with a broader project: the production of wine-growing excellence in Alto Adige and the enhancement of the Caldaro area.
